Orchids Perth | Perth Florist | Perth Flowers Delivery

The orchid family is truly immense, with an estimated 25,000 to 30,000 species and over 100,000 varieties bred by horticulturalists. It is estimated that a further 800 new species are added each year. Orchids occur in every habitat on the planet, except for Antarctica and true deserts.

With the possible exception of the rose, no other flower inspires such wonder or passion as the orchid. Orchids are relatively promiscuous, which means they inter-breed quite easily and explains the 100,000 or so hybrids we have today. Despite this huge variety there are only a handful of orchid types used in floristry – mostly Cymbidium, Dendrobium (Singapores) and Oncidium hybrids.

Dendrobium: With over 1200 species, this is a large genus with many native Australian species. Flowers are much smaller and delicate than Cymbidium, and form sprays of up to 50 flowers per branch. Stems are short, typically 20 to 40 cm.

The most popular Dendrobium is called the Singapore orchid, which typically has a dozen or so delicate flowers per stem in white, purple, pink, green, red or yellow. All are imported.

A little bit about us here at St Anne's & Gift Baskets Perth

St Anne's Florist and Gift Baskets is a wholly Western Australian family owned and operated business located in Perth City, Western Australia. St Anne's has been operating in excess of 40 years, having originally derived it's name from St Anne's Hospital Mount Lawley (now known as Mercy Hospital Mount Lawley).

We are rather unique in that we are a retail store whereby local orders placed with us either on line or by phone are actually completed and filled by our team of in house florists. We are NOT a third party distribution website relay business or call centre type operation whereby your order is taken by an operator (with no actual floral industry training or experience) with your order distributed to various third party florists with a 'management' fee taken. This translates to less flowers being able to be given by the third party florist accepting the order coupled with the fact that you are not dealing directly with the people that are designing and delivering the arrangement.

All florists employed by St Anne's Florist and Gift Baskets have completed a Certificate in Floral Design (or its overseas equivalent), with extensive on the job training and experience ensuring that the highest standard of design is applied to all of our floral arrangements, gift baskets and gift hampers. Forming part of the St Anne's Florist and Gift Baskets team are our three full time couriers, who weave our company owned vans throughout the Perth metropolitan area daily ensuring the flowers, gift baskets or gift hampers ordered arrive in the same great condition they leave our Perth Florist shop.

St Anne's Florist and Gift Baskets source daily our floral stock from local high quality producers, though where not possible import items from overseas so as to fulfil the requirements of our customers.

St Anne's Florist and Gift Baskets deliver daily over Perth Western Australia, Western Australia country, interstate including capital cities Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Darwin, Hobart and Canberra as well as internationally through the Interflora network.

The Importance Of Flower Care By You, Your Florist And The Flower Grower to Ensure You Receive Flower Life You Deserve

The Importance Of Flower Care By You, Your Florist And The Flower Grower to Ensure You Receive Flower Life You Deserve

While a flower is attached to the plant it continually receives nourishment allowing it to grow and develop. When cut from the plant it loses its source of nourishment and water. That is why all water used by St Anne's Florist and put in all of our arrangements is treated with Chrysal cut flower plant food.

The health, beauty and vibrance of freshly cut flowers rely on a combination of proper care and handling procedures from the grower to the consumer. By following some simple guidelines including sanitation, temperature control, proper nourishment and hydration it is possible to extend the lives of cut flowers which enhances consumer satisfaction.

 FLOWER CARE TIPS

Buy your flowers from reputable, responsible sources that follow proper care and handling procedures. St Anne's Florist purchasers from the best available growers and wholesalers that follow industry best practices.

Clean containers and tools daily then flower buckets at least once a week to eliminate the presence of bacteria.

Receive and process flowers immediately upon receipt from your supplier checking for damage, wilting, mildew, bacterial growth and insects.

Place newly re-cut flowers in a Chrysal floral nutrient and water solution. Remove any foliage that falls below the water line as foliage in water promotes the growth of harmful bacteria. Let the flowers stand at room temperature for approximately one hour to achieve the process called 'hardening off.'

Know your water. Water composition varies from one source to another therefore your specific floral nutrient requirements may vary as well.

To ensure the proper mixture of water and floral nutrient follow the directions on the package. For maximum efficiency in dispensing the proper nutrient solution install an automatic dispensing system.

Educate yourself to the characteristics, specific care and handling requirements of different flower varieties, i.e. the proper handling of flowers sensitive to ethylene gas.

Chrysal Flower Food (which St Anne's Florist puts in all of its water that goes into our arrangements and buckets in the shop) Increases flower life by up to 50- 60 percent, improves colour and scent and is suitable for all flower types.

Benefits include:

·         Keeps flowers and foliage  in optimum condition

·         Improved opening of flowers and better colour retention

·         Stimulates water uptake

·         Improves the vase life

·         Optimizes water uptake, which prevents 'bent-neck'

St Anne's Florist and Gift Baskets has a Large Walk in Cool room, set at around 6 degrees where we store all our flower stock not required on the shop floor during the day. All of our cut flowers from the shop floor are put away every night, ensuring that the flowers we send out on your behalf are in the best possible condition.
