Iris Flowers - A Little Bit About Them. St Anne's Florist Stocks Iris Flowers

Irises belong to the the large family of flowering plants Iradaceae which includes Gladioli, Freesias and Crocuses. There are around 200 different varieties of Iris

One of the main reasons of the popularity of Irises is the unusual arrangement of their flower petals, the three downward growing petals are often referred to as falls and balance the three petals knows as standard that grow upwards.

Through the Iris flowers life, from pointed bud to full bloom irises change in appearance, its a great thing to see from bud to full bloom.

Irises that are most commonly used in cut flower use are hybrids of the Spanish Iris, though confusingly they are know as Dutch Irises because like many flowers they were produced in volume in the Netherlands in the early twentieth century.
